FAQ
Do you work with students who are in Special Education or Learning Disabilities classes?

We have had over seventeen clients in the past who suffered from different degrees of disorders or learning disabilities and were successful in achieving the goals of both parent and child. In some cases we exceeded them, we treat these children with the same care as all others focusing primarily on building their confidence and boosting their level of understanding beyond what their teachers imagined was possible. We have two state certified Special Education instructors on our staff, Matt Toothaker and Marilyn Joffe, both of whom excel at what they do.

Do you work with children of all ages?

We have primarily had students in the grade ranges of third grade up to post-graduate college students. There is no restriction as to the age of the student, every student has the ability to learn and we find that ability.

If the student can't read or understand what he is reading, can you make a diagnosis of the problem over the phone?

A tentative diagnosis may be made over the phone after listening to the student read a few sentences from any book or magazine. The diagnosis is not a positive diagnosis and may change once more time has been spent with your child.

How long do you think it will take my child to catch up in his/her class?

The time fram varies from student to student. Some students may have missed a week of instruction due to illness whereas it will only take about two weeks of meeting three times per week to catch that student up. If a student was not physically absent but had a tendancy to mentally wander during important portions of class, that student would take longer to catch up because there is no definite degree of how much material is missing from their foundation.

How many tmes a week do you see a child?

To answer this, we must consider the student's age, grade level, and the seriousness of the problem. If the student cannot retain the material from one week to the next, then seeing that student more than once per week is vital to the success of our program.

My child really needs help but I can't afford more than once per week, are you sure we need to meet more than once per week?

Money never comes before education within this company. We will be more than happy to discuss what you can or can't afford so we get rid of the "can't". We believe everyone can and should be able to afford tutoring services, and we are here to make that happen.

Do you write contracts for a certain number of sessions?

Absolutely NOT! You pay on an as-needed basis and never pay for more than you need, we believe in the "pay as you go" philosophy.

Do you test the student?

Yes, each student is required to take an assessment test that will be created after the first session. This assessment test is given to the student as homework during the second session. Each student is a separate individual which in our eyes means that no two students truly learn alike.

Do you need test scores, graded assignments, or report cards from the school?

We definitely want all three, we also want the conact information of the student's instructor so we can contact them and get additional insight into what they think we should do to supplement your child's study time at home.

How do you teach a child self-confidence?

Self-confidence comes with learning. As the students begin to understand their work and are able to participate in class more freely, they become more self-confident. This does not occur overnight, it takes time to build up and the knowledge is lifelong.
